About That Travel Ban

No, not that one.

This one. The one you probably have never heard of because it involves Andrew Cuomo’s (D-ipshit, NY) ban on state-sponsored travel to North Carolina because that state passed a law last year requiring transgender people to use the bathroom of the gender with which they were born.

A University at Buffalo pharmacy student is appealing the governor’s travel ban to North Carolina because she says it affects her ability to do rotations there.
This student hasn’t gotten any response from the governor’s office despite three months of calls, letters, and faxes to appeal her case, so Christine Piccione finally reached out 2 On Your Side as a plea for help.
Piccione is a third year pharmacy student at UB, and one of the final things these students need to do are rotations for hands-on practice.

So, this virtue signaling retard has joined celebutards and other assorted, frothing trash by trying to punish North Carolina for a bathroom law (that I have always disagreed with due to government overreach issues) he felt was discriminatory against transgender people.

Did he ban official government travel to Saudi Arabia, where homosexuality is punishable by law? No. How about Iran? Can New Yorkers still travel there? Yes.

You mean, he only banned travel to a single state in the union – a state that saw it fit to dictate who uses what bathroom in a public building?

Hypocrite.

All that said, who really loses in this scenario?

Piccione was funding her trip herself – with her own money. She has been prevented by the state from studying where she believed was best for her own education, since UNC Chapel Hill is widely regarded as having one of the best – of not the best – pharmacy program in country, and certain laws in NC would allow her to do more than here in New York, according to the report.

“I definitely think it does put me at a disadvantage. I’m going to be competing against the top students in the country for jobs, and I just don’t think it’s fair that I don’t get that opportunity when we can travel anywhere else in the country, anywhere else in the world even, and I can’t travel to one state in my own country,” said Piccione.

And yes, this travel ban infringes on this student’s rights. It inserts government into her personal education decisions. It puts an unnecessary hardship on her, forcing her to waste time and resources trying to resolve the issue, which really just comes down to wanting to study her chosen profession in what is ostensibly the best pharmacy program in the country.

And the state – the ever mighty, overreaching state – has decided in all its wisdom that Piccione cannot spend her own money to study in North Carolina, because Cuomo disagrees with a law there. A student is prevented from studying at the university of her choice, because Cuomo doesn’t like that state’s law.

And let’s be clear – right now that’s all it is: Cuomo’s opinion.

The trial over this law has been postponed until the Supreme Court decides whether the Obama administration’s interpretation of federal civil rights law, that transgender students are protected under Title IX, which prohibits sex-based discrimination in federally funded education programs, is correct. That case will be heard next month, according to press. So until that issue is decided in the nation’s courts, Cuomo is preventing a student from traveling to North Carolina to study at a highly regarded educational program, because Cuomo has an opinion.

christine-piccioneWhy is no one protesting that a U.S. citizen’s right to fund her own education and travel where she sees appropriate for her career choice has been violated?

I mean, we’re seeing snortastically ignorant nationwide boycotts in support of people who violated the law by coming here illegally – or staying here illegally. But no one is protesting the ever-intrusive state preventing a student from traveling within her own country – on her own dime. Why is that?

I guess a “privileged” blonde, white girl doesn’t elicit the same kind of sanctimonious outrage as oppressed “people of color.”

And by the way – I remember a place where you had to have government permission to travel for work or study. It was called the USSR.

Dear HAG – Eat a Bag of Dicks

The Halt Action Group (HAG) – no, they really do call themselves that – has decided that the best way to voice their concerns about President-elect Donald Trump is by harassing his daughter Ivanka.

To that end, the Halt Action Group (HAG), founded by Gingeras, Powers, artist Jonathan Horowitz, and several others, initiated a campaign called “Dear Ivanka.” The group has an Instagram feed in which they repost glossy stock images of Trump along with earnest appeals about what they foresee as the dire consequences of her father’s politics—topics addressed include global warming, universal health care, and contraception policy. Hoping to “thwart the normalization of what was unfolding in front of our eyes,” Gingeras said, the group, comprised of artists, dealers, psychoanalysts, and even a few collectors, reached out to the artists featured in Trump’s Instagram feed. They asked the artists to join them and ask Ivanka “to answer for some of the hypocrisy she embodies,” Gingeras said.

Earnest appeals? Right.

More like hysterical whining and teeth-gnashing not rooted in any reality.

Let’s start with the fact that Ivanka is a successful businesswoman, who has paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to purchase art and promote artists, who may or may not have had as much success with their work without her.  Let’s also point out that Ivanka Trump is not her father, and his “policies” have yet to be implemented, because…

HE’S NOT FUCKING PRESIDENT YET, YOU GUM-FLAPPING, WHINING SNOT GOBBLERS!

“Racism, anti-Semitism, misogyny, and homophobia are not acceptable anywhere—least of all in the White House,” the HAGs write.

Well, that’s fortunate since Ivanka is an orthodox Jew, and her father bucked the general GOP trend of trying to legislate bathroom morality – even before he won the nomination – by publicly declaring that transgender people should use whatever bathroom they felt was appropriate.

All these facts, of course, haven’t stopped snobby, self-important, elitist assclowns from harassing Ivanka Trump and, in one case, even demanding that she remove art she has purchased – her own property – from her home!

trumpIvanka Trump has posed for pictures in front of her art collection, including a painting by Philadelphia artist Alex Da Corte, who recently Tweeted at her “Dear @Ivankatrump please get my work off of your walls. I am embarrassed to be seen with you.”

Really, asshole?

First of all, it’s her fucking property, for which she paid quite a bit. If she wants to wipe your painting with her kid’s shitty diaper, she’s within her right to do so. If she wants to hang a tacky, red “Make America Great Again” hat from a nail hammered right into the middle of your work that my cat could have painted by dipping his tail into some watercolors, she could. Because it’s HERS, you sniveling fuck goblin! You want to cough up the auction value of this trash you painted and buy it back from her? I’m sure she’d be thrilled, as she’s paid quite a bit of money for the art collection she displays in her home, and the artists she graciously promotes by doing so have benefited both financially and in terms of publicity.

In one post, Trump shimmies in front of a Dan Colen “chewing gum” painting; a comparable work sold for $578,500 at Phillips New York in 2012. In another post, Trump’s child plays the piano in front of a “bullet hole” silkscreen by Nate Lowman; a bullet-hole painting in the same palette sold for $665,000 in 2013 at Sotheby’s in New York. In yet another post, taken from a Harper’s Bazaar shoot, Trump poses at her dining table in front of a work by Alex Israel. A similar painting by Israel sold for $581,000 in 2014 at Phillips New York.

The hypocrisy is incredible! They were more than happy to take her money when she was just a businesswoman and the daughter of a real estate mogul who helped promote their work on the world stage. But now, because it’s en vogue in their snotty, quasi-intellectual circle jerks to hate Trump, they’re condemning her for nothing more than being the daughter of a President-elect whom they did not support!

cardIt’s not just the supercilious hypocrisy that bothers me here, but also the promotion of frothing histrionics by HAG, who staged a protest outside Ivanka’s home on in late November.

For the record, Ivanka Trump has nothing to do with their irrational fear of Mike Pence and his alleged “homophobia,” which has amply been addressed, had anyone bothered doing a shred of research. For the record, no he didn’t try to divert public money for “conversion therapy.”

For the record, Ivanka Trump has done plenty to help people who “don’t look like” her, you blithering ignorami! Some of the charities she supports are Habitat for Humanity, AIDS Life, the Children’s Aid Society, United Cerebral Palsy, and the Walkabout Foundation. And in 2010, Ivanka designed and sold a bracelet specifically to benefit the United Nations Foundation’s Girl Up campaign, which “aims to raise money and awareness to educate and propel adolescent girls in need to the next generation of leadership.”

In addition to the protest, the group collected cards from people explaining why they are concerned about the president-elect.

‘I am a Muslim-American immigrant and I don’t feel safe,’ one card read.

‘You’re scaring the hell out of women,’ another said.

So she’s scaring the hell out of women by helping promote and educate them?

She’s scaring the hell out of women by showing that a woman can rise up and become a business powerhouse in her own right, outside of daddy’s sphere of influence?

She’s scaring the hell out of women by showing them what they are capable of with some creativity and ingenuity?

I guess it makes sense given the kind of pseudo-feminist toads who are engaging in this campaign of intimidation against her.

Success would require hard work, talent, creativity, and strength. These alleged “feminists” don’t exhibit any of those traits, and they’re too lazy to develop them. Instead, they wallow in their inadequacies and demand the world worship their flaws, rather than their ability to overcome them – as if their warts should be a claim check to others’ means merely by “virtue” of their ugliness, and as if their sores somehow make them more righteous. It’s certainly easier than working to evolve and mature as human beings or nurture nascent talents!

Maybe these pompous, overbearing ass bags should look in the mirror and really examine who is “scaring the hell out of women.” Is it the successful businesswoman, who uses her wealth and creativity to help others, including up-and-coming artists, the poor, and women worldwide…

…or the pompous, overbearing ass bags themselves, who are fomenting hysteria, spreading misinformation, and targeting the family of a President-elect they don’t like – something they vehemently opposed and screeched about when Democrat presidents were in office – merely because they’re related?

But that would require some self awareness and objectivity. I doubt they’re capable of either.

The Hypocrisy of Trump Supporters

I probably should have titled this blog post “The Hypocrisy of SOME Trump Supporters,” because I do know a few folks who aren’t complete morons, but who still support the Hairy Hemorrhoid™ because they believe he’s either the lesser of all the evils, or they are simply tired of everything and want to burn the whole place to the ground.

This does, however, tie in with my previous contention that Trump supporters, generally, will back this guy no matter what!

Trump claims he consults himself on foreign policy (and hires a guy who graduated college in 2009 and lists the Model UN on his resume as a foreign policy adviser), and they either screech off topic that this is just an empty attack, and that it doesn’t matter, or they claim it’s simply part of his strategery, because he’s so sharp, and “Oh, who are Hillary’s advisers?”

Trump engages in a campaign of character assassination against a reporter who accuses his staffer of roughly grabbing her? Oh, it wasn’t that hard, they claim!

Megyn Kelly asks Trump some hard questions, he whines about her being unfair to him, and his supporters rampage on Twitter, calling her everything from a bimbo to a trashy skank, to a cunt.

Because STRATEGERY! He’s just trying to keep his opponents off balance! MMMMKAY…

Because life is so unfair to poor Donald!

The same people who criticize Barack Obama for his “evolution” on the issue of same sex marriage, don’t care that Trump was pro-choice until he “evolved,” although he still thinks Planned Parenthood does a lot of good, but no, he’s pro-life… so pro-life, in fact, that he wants women who get abortions punished by the government!

They don’t care that he “evolved” on guns from an “assault” weapon banning, background check and waiting period to exercise a fundamental right-mandating statist prick to a “I SUPPORT OUR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS!”

The same people who claim Hillary can’t be Commander-in-Chief, because BENGHAZI! are perfectly OK with a Commander-in-Chief who brags he will issue illegal orders to the military, and the military will damn well follow them, because he’s TRUMP!

Yes, the Hairy Hemorrhoid gave Clinton operative Terry McAuliffe $25,000 - that's TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND FUCKING DOLLARS - to win the governorship of Virginia!

The same people who are tired of candidates who are beholden to Wall Street and corporate interests worship at the tiny dick of someone who openly bragged about giving money to those same politicians, because that’s how you get things done and now wants to become one of them.

The same people who complain about the establishment compromising on absolutely everything zealously support someone who openly brags about being flexible and making”great deals.”

The same people who scream and yell about Obama’s use of Executive Orders have no problem with Trump proudly claiming he will follow suit, because he will use them for “the right things.”

The same people who chastised Obama for his blindness on Russia during the 2012 campaign (the 80s called – they want their foreign policy back) ignore Trump’s outright ignorance on the threat of a resurgent, aggressive Russia and praise his insistence that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin would be BFFs

And the same people who claim to be staunch conservatives and assert that the only way they will abandon Trump is if he goes “back on his policies or his issues” ignore the fact that this is all he’s done throughout his life!

This stunning lack of self awareness and the refusal to see their own hypocrisy shows a desperation on behalf of the Trump supporters. They are so desperate for a change, that they are blindly and zealously supporting everything they claim to oppose, because ultimately, their goal is to piss off daddy (read: establishment) by bringing home the drunken guy with the nose ring (read: Trump), and not to “make America great again.”

America is already great. Those who have lived outside this country, those who lived under the oppressive boot of communism, those who have experienced authoritarianism understand that.

Forgiveness

There’s a reason I haven’t blogged about the Ashley Madison hack. There’s a weirdly angry part of me that is gratified to see the hypocrisy of such social conservatives as Josh Duggar, who screech “family values” and work to impose their religious mores on the rest of us, while engaging in acts ranging from adultery, to kiddie diddling, to porn, revealed for the world to see. But that’s just my own sense of justice talking. I hate hypocrisy. Add to this Duggar’s sexual abuse against little girls when he was a teenager, and his family’s disgusting failure to seek justice, while oozing the cloying, “perfect family” illusion to the rest of the world, and the side of me that revels in the pain of bigots, charlatans, and phonies rejoices.

The Ashley Madison hack revealed the baser side of quite a few people. Duggar was just tip of the sewage heap. Politicians… celebrities… sports stars… quite a few of them were exposed as paying customers looking for side nookie.

Know what? None of my business. The libertarian in me says, “this is between them and their spouses.” That other me says, “how dare they invade people’s privacy in such a way?” That me says, “what people do in their bedrooms, what they do outside their marriages, and with whom they do it is not and should not be anyone’s concern.

But yeah, there’s that devilish me that says, if you’re a politician who has spent his life trying to use government force to impose your religious values on everyone else, “FUCK YOU! YOU DESERVE IT!”

So I’m torn. Recently a pastor who was outed on the Ashley Madison site as trolling for an affair committed suicide. This is awful. This is sad. This is tragic. His wife came home to find his body and then had to tell her kids that their dad took his own life. The man apparently struggled with depression and addiction in the past, and in the end he just couldn’t live with himself because of what he had done.

No, it’s not up to us to forgive him. I certainly won’t justify his actions in any way. He hurt his family. He hurt his children. He hurt his friends. But in the end, they are the only ones who can forgive him. And even though, that snide part of me is pleased that these people were exposed for the sleazy degenerates that they are, overall, I’m disgusted that their privacy was destroyed in such a slimy manner.

In the end, it’s not up to me to judge them. That’s between them and whatever deity they happen to worship. That’s between them and their families and friends.

In the end, the people on that list have to face what they did all by themselves. Their only victims are their spouses and their children. Their only victims are their consciences. That’s where they need to seek forgiveness.

Me… I’ll just continue to be disgusted with the heinous breech of trust and privacy that led to this burning car wreck in the first place.

Cowards, Corruption, and Conventions

By now, most observers of Republican politics here in the Old Dominion know what transpired down in Virginia Beach Monday evening. Gary Byler, the current chair of RPV’s 2nd Congressional District Committee, is a supporter of conventions to determine our statewide nominees, and the establishment old boy network of our state party doesn’t like conventions anymore, so they wanted to replace him. He elected NOT to run for re-election, and the Vice Chair of the 2nd, Curtis Colgate, stepped up. He also is a supporter of conventions, and is a fairly big donor, has a long history of party activism, and notably owns the historic Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach. Establishment Senator Frank Wagner (R-7th) put together a campaign for the chair of the 2nd before Byler announced he wasn’t running. You may remember Frank Wagner is the genius who introduced, along with his buddy Del. Scott Taylor (R-85th), bills in both houses of the General Assembly this past session to forbid any method of nomination except open primaries by ANY political party for statewide candidates. Thankfully, this effort went down to ignominious defeat after a popular outcry.

Senator Frank Wagner, the man who would be king.

Senator Frank Wagner, the man who would be king.

Back to Monday evening at the Virginia Beach Republican Party mass meeting. Sen. Wagner knew the Beach comprises 64% of the total voting strength at the 2nd Congressional District Convention this year, so he was kind enough to help slate the Virginia Beach delegation down to just 32, including himself and his most reliable minions. This was out of nearly 1,000 people who filed to be delegates. He disenfranchised all of these people simply because some of them were Colgate supporters. The hand count was NOT done through a ‘division of the house’, so that both sides get an accurate, fair count. It was orchestrated so Wagner’s people had every advantage. If it stands, he has 100% of the Beach’s voting strength, and is now guaranteed the chairmanship of the 2nd. Slating is something that’s done to remove ineligible or compromised voters, such as known members of another political party, etc. This was done so that Frank Wagner can win. No other reason. Del. Barry Knight (R-81st) and Sen. Jeff McWaters (R-8th), along with Taylor, helped organize and lead this effort. Del. Chris Stolle (R-83rd), chaired the mass meeting and played along. The rumor is that Sen. Wagner is planning to use this as a springboard to take control of the RPV State Central Committee over the next few years, and then run for Governor in 2017 in an open primary, which he will ensure is the mandatory method of nomination. Particularly distasteful is how Wagner, Taylor and co. hide behind the “Conventions disenfranchise members of the military!” canard. This is the worst, basest, craven cowardice. I’ll bet some of the nearly 1,000 folks you slated were military, Frank.

Senator Jeff McWaters, minion of both Bob McDonnell and Frank Wagner. He made his fortune off of Medicaid, through his firm AmeriGroup, which was then sold off to WellPoint. Real conservative.

Needless to say, I have no intention of standing by and letting this happen, and I know plenty of other grassroots Republicans leaders in the Commonwealth won’t either. If they get away with this sort of underhanded behavior here, it will happen all across Virginia. Not a chance. I plan to do my part to shine a light on this, have the Virginia Beach delegation either include everyone who filed, both at the RPV Convention in Roanoke and at the 2nd CD Convention, or have the delegation black flagged (disqualified). Then I plan to help ensure Wagner, McWaters, Taylor, Knight, and Stolle all face strong primary challenges next year. Should they gain nomination, I wouldn’t mind seeing conservative or libertarian independents in the general. These men are unworthy of being leaders, and certainly unworthy of the public trust.
