UPDATE: Delta reaches out to customer

Well, at least Delta didn’t double down on the stupid after their flight attendant was recorded telling a passenger that unless he gave up the seat he had already paid for, and which his baby son occupied in his car seat, he would be thrown in jail. Instead, they apparently quickly reached out to Brian Schear and offered compensation for the way the family was treated.

“We are sorry for the unfortunate experience our customers had with Delta, and we’ve reached out to them to refund their travel and provide additional compensation,” the airline said in a statement issued Thursday. “Delta’s goal is to always work with customers in an attempt to find solutions to their travel issues. That did not happen in this case and we apologize.”

In this case, the issue was Delta’s for allowing the desire to shove as many passengers onto their aircraft as possible by booting a baby out of the seat purchased by his parents in favor of a standby passenger to overwhelm basic ethics and customer service.

Full retard so far has been avoided in this case.

  1. Yay! I’m glad the negative PR had the intended effect. This sounds like a decent resolution, all things considered:

  2. Don’t worry, this is simply an aberration. They will revert to type. I am flying on Sunday, hoping for merely loud and boring. As some ancient comic once opined, airplane travel is when you least desire an adventure.

IF indeed, the employee threatened jail for the parents who would not give up their FULLY PAID FOR seat, then the employee should be fired. Dot. Period. The employee was lying. He/she KNEW they were lying. Purposefully. IF those facts are correct, anything less that FIRING will NOT be the right thing to do. Why would Delta even WANT this employee around – who lies to the pax.?

    1. I’m guessing there’s a flight attendants union somewhere in the mix.

My wife is in such a union. I retired from a pilots union. My comments still stand. Historically, the F/A union is not nearly as strong for their members as the pilot union is.
