And Here’s Another One! Zero Tolerance Stupidity, Part 9,000,072,328

Say hello to the 11-year-old daughter of Ronald and Andrea Souto. This little girl brought a peach to school, and when her friend asked her for a piece, she was nice enough to cut the peach in half and give it to her pal at lunch.

Wait… WHAT?

This child cut a peach? Oh, no! Did she bring a dangerous switchblade or butterfly knife to cut said fruit?

“This is a set of a spoon, fork and knife for toddlers — one year old,” Andrea Souto said. “It is made for children to learn how to eat properly. She’s used it since she was baby.”

According to the school district, the girl violated the county’s weapon policy when she used her butter knife in the cafeteria to cut the peach.

Thanks to the Daily Caller for the graphic.

And for this “awful transgression” that endangered the lives of her schoolmates, this honor roll student has not only been suspended for six days, but could now be facing criminal charges, because the Pembroke Pines Police Department said it has turned the investigation to the State Attorney’s Office. It’s not clear if charges will be filed, but it’s a possibility.

School officials are, of course, defending their course of action by claiming they were just following the district’s policy regarding weapons. Because why use common sense when these rabid, hysterical, mentally unhinged, half-witted, imbecilic fuck badgers can simply suspend a good kid and be done with it? Thinking is goddamn hard, apparently!

Meanwhile, this complete lack of common sense has destroyed this child’s confidence in her school and her teachers.

Nice job, shit gits. Nice job.

  1. Mom and Dad, get the kid a good tutor or put her in a good private school where she’ll really learn something, but get her out of that school system!

The hystericals are out of control – AGAIN! And I know that kid doesn’t have any idea what she did wrong. When I was in grade school back in the caveman days, our school lunches included stainless steel fork, knife and spoon wrapped in a napkin. We all, including the dumbest kid in school, knew how to eat with tableware. I don’t know what is wrong with these people now, but they are not people I’d want my kids around. They are NUTS!!!!

    1. Sort of agree.

She is going to learn something at that school. The question should be: but what will she learn?

The world is full of things that have dual use – a knife is one of those things. Suspending a child for proper use of tableware is right up there with ordering boiling hot coffee and spilling it in your crotch then complaining that you were burned. Yes, school district, I am talking about you.

  3. The modern progressive is insane when it comes to “weapons.” The weaponier it looks the more they try to ban it. Guns, knives, clubs, spears… but what about the #2 lead pencil? A Bic pen — both make dandy daggers. A rolled up magazine can be a lethal weapon. Given a few minutes any imaginative person can macguyver a weapon. Alas, someone whose education consisted of hyphen-studies lacks imagination.

    2. Twenty or thirty years ago, an author named Trevanian wrote a thriller called Shibumi, where he gave his assassin main character a martial art called NakedKill: “For the practitioner, the average Western room contains over 200 lethal weapons.”

These people seem to think that fantasy = reality.

  5. I’m at the point that sending a child to a public indoctrination center should be considered child abuse. The whole system, nation wide, needs to be done away with and start over. In the 60’s and early 70’s, we actually learned thing, some of them useful. That was before the liberal communist regime took over the schools.

    1. In the 70’s we even had shop classes where we used power tools.
I also took the Ohio hunters education class at the jr high school during which the teacher brought a few different shotguns and rifles to class.
We made recurve bows in an after school shop class, we had a woodcarving class in which we used razor sharp chisels and carving knives.
Leftard heads would explode if such activities were offered at the local middle school.

In order to be a school administrator, one needs to take an IQ test. If the applicant scores higher than 80, he or she is not qualified for the job. Remember the little boy to brought a strawberry pop tart to school and nibbled it. The teacher thought that he was eating it in a manner so as to cause the half-eaten pop-tart to resemble a gun thus this child also was suspended. Teachers, it seems, need to take the IQ test, as well, but they are allowed to score as high as 90 before they are disqualified.

A person with a normal IQ would have sent a note home to the parents stating that the school has a policy wherein only cafeteria-issued cutlery can be used to eat food on school property ……thus please do not pack cutlery again in the child’s lunch bag. Of course, they did not do that because no one with a normal IQ would be allowed to be a school administrator, in the first place. The good news is that the likelihood of the attorney general taking on this case (recall the school sent the toddler knife to him as “evidence”) is very slim. If he prosecuted the child, he would be held up to public ridicule throughout the country and his reelection would be essentially toast.

This case is right on up there with the girl who gave Midol (Tylenol and caffeine) to a classmate who was suffering from menstrual cramps. She was charged with not only drug possession but drug distribution, as well. The school bragged about its “zero tolerance” drug policy. Everyone knows that giving a classmate a tablet of Midol is no different that pushing heroin on school property. Given the severe nature of her crime, she should have been sent to the maximum security prison in Florence, CO. We absolutely cannot allow dangerous criminals such as one who would give (gasp!) Midol to a classmate with menstrual cramps to run loose on our streets.

  7. Read a similar story about a kid who brought a butter knife to school to cut up his banana because he had braces. This was the mid 1990s, in South Carolina. The stupidity has been with us for a long time, infecting everywhere.

It absolutely is, Nicki, for some people. It’s much easier for them to just “follow policy”. Until it’s a policy with which they don’t agree, of course; then they suddenly become fucking legal scholars to find ways to avoid enforcing it.

The administrators lost all measure of credibility when they referred this case to the attorney general of the State of Florida. These are people totally incapable of any manner of critical thinking. They are sheep in the truest sense of the word. There are so many logical ways a situation like this could be handled – mostly by contacting the parents and advising them not to pack cutlery with lunch. Yet another way would be to remind all students what is or is not permitted in school using this very example without mentioning the girl’s name or embarrassing her. It could be brought up at assembly or in homeroom reminding everyone of the policy.

These are the kind of people who would come across a baby in a parking lot about to die of heatstroke in a locked car and wonder what they should do. They wouldn’t break the windows of the car because that would be “vandalism.” You are looking at particular teachers and administrators who are not very bright and should not be in a position to lead others, in this case school children. I truly believe that if IQ tests were administered to these individuals, they would uniformly score significantly below average. If I were a teacher or school administrator, I’d be embarrassed to share a profession with these people.

    1. Physed majors? A typical coach has a much better education than the typical education major. Principals and Superintendents with PhD in Education are the ones running the schools – ALL OF THEM. AN illiterate moron can get a PhD in education with honors.

      1. Some years ago there was some study published that showed that pretty much every teacher out there was on the back side of the bell curve for intelligence. There was a popular joke that accompanied blog posts about it that went “Anyone who thinks teachers are smart never fucked an El-Ed major in college.”

        Seems apropos somehow.

There is a reason why there are sometimes 6000 applicants for a few elementary school positions. It is because relative to other majors in college, it does not take all that much brains to graduate with this degree. Accordingly, some very stupid people can get degrees in elementary education and then get jobs. Worse some of them go to become school administrators. Now for the record, I am NOT saying that every elementary school teacher – or middle school teacher – is stupid. Many are not so. Some are quite smart, even. What I AM saying is that if a person has a relatively low IQ, that fact will not prevent him or her from getting a degree in elementary education. ….and then go on to teach your children.

I never realized there were so many exceptional online resources for home-schooling, including tutors, teachers that assign, grade and certify, even local groups that get together for field trips(recently Kennedy Space Center). I’m sorry that many can’t take advantage of it due to work or other reasons. It’s amazingly successful for my grandkids.

  13. If I had my way, any time a school issues a zero-tolerance policy for anything, they should have all administrative salaries cut in half. Maybe if it bit some of them on the ass, they’d be more willing to use whatever passes for brains in there heads

You are quite correct – zero-tolerance policy is the opposite of reasoned thinking. Why have any brains at all if one is not going to use them to evaluate any given situation. Zero tolerance implies that all circumstances are equal and, worse yet, all will meet with the same response. Hence, the girl who uses a toddler knife to cut a peach to share with her friend is equal to the adolescent who brings a stiletto knife intending to brandish it with rival gang members. To those who cannot critically think, both are equal and both should receive the same response from the school officials. They need such a policy because they lack sufficient brain power to evaluate the two situations and discern the correct response for each of them. Same with the girl who gave Midol to her friend with menstrual cramps. The mind which cannot discern the difference between that scenario and one where someone is pushing heroin for profit on school property requires zero-tolerance policies. These officials do not have sufficient confidence in their own ability to discern who is and who is not actually committing an offense. I will add that their lack of confidence in their own ability to think is also very well founded.
