Goodbye

I received a call from the hospital this morning telling me that Mac had taken a turn for the worse. She was struggling to breathe, and our doctor did not think they could do anything else for her, since she did not respond to chemotherapy.

Rob and I were with her, holding her and stroking her as she fell asleep in my arms for the last time

RIP, my beautiful little friend. I swore I would never allow you to suffer, and I kept my promise.

We will all love you for eternity.

  1. We just went through the same experience with our cat, except I had a vet at the house. It sucks. My condolences.

Nicki, my sincerest condolences. We went through the same with our cat, Max, a Japanese Bobtail. From the time he was diagnosed with feline leukemia, we knew it was only a matter of time. Then, one day, he went out and disappeared for two days. We feared the worst, only to be surprised by finding him crawling back to the house. We took him in, made him comfortable, and took turns being with him until the end. We loved him and, in turn, he loved us. Yes, it’s all about love. He’s buried behind our house.

  10. Again, I’m sorry for your loss, Nicki. Pets become family members and losing one is almost like losing a child. I’m not much of a cat fan, but I can extrapolate your sorrow from what we felt when we’ve lost several dogs over the years. I lost a rescue beagle to distemper because of my own stupidity–and not being able to recognize the symptoms, a poodle to a German shepherd because of my son’s negligence in leaving the gate open, and another poodle, a schnauzer and our first Yorkie to old age. Each was a trauma.

    1. Losing any animal is a trauma. They certainly grab your heart with their furry little paws, don’t they? I’m not particularly either a dog or a cat person. I love them all equally and have rescued a number of them over the years. This was so hard, because she’s been with us for so long. She has outlived every single pet we’ve had over the years, except for Tucker, whom we got only 2 years ago. My son and she grew up together, and they really bonded so closely. Thanks for all the emotional support. It’s greatly appreciated and cherished.

  12. My condolences to you and your family. Losing a pet is very sad, my wife and I lost our first cat just over two years ago. Kole was abandoned by his previous owners an we took him in and had him for 7 wonderful years. The day we let Kole go off to Kitty Heaven, my wife and I adopted 2 kittens from a rescue shelter. Misty and Azrael have helped to fill the void, and each of them have characteristics of Kole. My thoughts and well wishes go out to you and your family.

  13. I am so sorry, Nicki. I already told you Scooter’s story. Hopefully Mac is now chasing that little bugger around the big meadow in the sky. Yeah, I know, total role reversal, but from what I’ve read about Mac, it sounds like she wasn’t the kind of cat to that let herself be pushed around by anyone, especially not a crazy, oversized white fuzzball.
