Fox’s new comedy – a study in screwuppery

So apparently Fox has a new comedy out. It’s called “Enlisted.” Now, as soon as I heard about the new comedy, I really thought it would wind up being a disaster. I mean, when does Hollywood ever bother with actual attention to detail, right?  Especially when it comes to the military!

How many times have we seen screwed up covers, out of regs hair, both on the head and on the face, messed up rank, name tapes in the wrong place, wrong color T-shirts… the list goes on. This Fox series is apparently no different, and those who saw the promos were quick to point out the screw-ups.

Well, to their credit, the execs took the bull by the horns, and made chicken soup out of chicken shit. They owned up to their errors, and made the mess into a contest. Good for them!

“Spot Our Errors” Contest

Watch the Series Premiere of Enlisted FRI 9:30/8:30c JAN 10 and write down all the things the show gets wrong!

I won’t enter the contest, and frankly, I probably won’t watch the show, because Sarah graduates Marine Corps boot camp that day, so we will be celebrating at Parris Island, but this is a refreshing idea, and I hope they do fix all the errors!

  1. As shown by the Simpsons, Fox actually does have a sense of humour and are happy to take the piss out of themselves🙂

  2. how bout they do a comedy about the gat-bot community instead of mocking our troop’s while they’re still fighting and dying? hollywierd has no shame!

  3. Congrats on raising a Marine🙂 (soon to be type, 1 each) — watching both my sons graduate from Boot was two of the moments I’ll always treasure.

  4. I will reserve judgement until I see the show. The uniform errors, situation snafus (you wouldn’t have an E-2 doing that, a Col would not be caught in that situation .. etc), equipment misplacement (those aircraft are already all in the bone yard), and all the rest may (and it’s a pretty big may) be given a pass, if the overall writing is above par (think MASH when they had a good group of writers).

If it turns out to be another “The Final Countdown” (yeah I know it’s a movie, but the errors were still the same) then all bets are off.

And congratulations on getting a new Marine in the family. Have a son in the Navy in the same rating as I was in…it is great talking with him about his version of “the job”, as compared to when I was in. Give her a big “Simper Fi!” from this ol retired Squid!

  5. Nicki,
Did you explain to your Marine that they only go where the Navy takes them?

  7. I read over at Black Five that a lot of the changes were driven by the backlash of veterans. Won’t watch it (I have Roku only and no cable or satellite service) but I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

As for your daughter: Congratulations to her. My dad was career Air Force but he found it in his heart to forgive me becoming a knuckle dragger. I’m sure you can do the same.😀

  8. Is she going to be a “mud Marine” or is she going to the “airdale” side of the house? The Marines go to the same aviation schools their Navy counterparts do. It does make for some interesting classes/classmates.

  10. What gets me, is just how friggin hard would it have been for someone to google AR 670-1 and print it out? They wouldn’t even have to pay a consultant for that!

    1. Ah, but you forget! 1) Research is hard. B) Publicity is cheap.

  11. I watched the show. It was a little uneven, but had both hilarious and touching moments, not unlike the movie ‘Stripes’. I’m not G.I., but I did notice when they were all outside sans covers…
    Congrats on your new Marine!
