  2. Misuse of all those words are irritants to me…like fingernails on a blackboard…as is the use of “irregardless,” which isn’t even a real word. The word is “regardless”…period.

Actually, these are my pet peeves too.

“irregardless” (not a real word, as noted elsewhere) would actually be a double negative, and would work out to be “regarding”.

Thank you for demonstrating a remarkable flair for the obvious to anyone who paid attention to spelling by the 8th grade. Let’s not forget “forte” vs “forte” in our attempt to sound erudite and worldly. I’ve given up on correcting the illiterati. Computers have given us the ignorance alert–an unintended consequence of Spell Check. This provides humor without having to download the funny pages.

i remember the efforts to sound cool on campus in the late 60s by sprinkling your speech with various Yiddish idioms. Half those morons probably couldn’t even spell Jew!

If you want to speak a foreign language, learn it. Yeah, it’s something like work to do it properly.

Keep up the good work, Nikki.

    1. “Forte vs. forte”? It’s spelled the same, so, two meanings? I only know one meaning.

  8. Every word has a specific meaning. That understanding is essential to critical reasoning. Without critical reasoning, we are the prey of every salesman and politician (another kind of salesman).

Q: Do you know the difference between a pimp and a salesman?
    A: The product.
