Piers Morgan and that “Little Book”

So for those of you who have lives, who aren’t snotty hipster douches who worship Piers Morgan as the apex of intellectuality and integrity, and who don’t get their news and information from a former American Idol judge who was booted from his newspaper in England for publishing fake photographs of Abu Ghraib abuses, I present the snotty Brit at his most arrogant and disrespectful.

Last night, Piers Morgan interviewed Ben Shapiro on his show. In typical Morgan style, when Shapiro dismantled his arguments like tiny little walls made of Duplo™ blocks, Morgan resorted to bullying, name calling, general ad hominem attacks and arrogant attempts at intimidation, which included a reference to the foundational document of this nation – the US Constitution – as “that little book” during the debate on Second Amendment rights.

“You come in here, brandish your little book as if I don’t know what’s in there–”

“My little book? That’s the Constitution of the United States. It’s our founding document, Piers.”

“I know what’s in your Constitution.”

“Do you really?”

Well, no. He does not.

He may know what’s in the Constitution, but this doesn’t mean he understands it or respects it, especially when he calls the Law of the Land that has provided him with opportunities he obviously did not have in his homeland, a nation whose foundational document makes a specific point of protecting his fundamental rights, a nation that was built upon the ideals of individual rights, “that little book.”

Let me tell you something, Piers, you pernicious, condescending bag of worthless blathering!

No one needs to justify to you or any other snotty British quasi-intellectual whiner why we CHOOSE to exercise our rights. They are called “rights” for a reason. The moment we need to justify to you or any petty tyrant in a suit why we need to exercise said rights, they become little more than privileges. Learn the difference.

You came here of your own free will, hoping to find better opportunities. This nation allowed you here to work and to achieve. This nation protects your fundamental rights to free speech, religion, assembly and press and even guarantees your right to petition the government if you have complaints about how this country is run. And it guarantees your right to stand up and protect your fundamental rights using the most effective tools available, which happen to be firearms. These are all fundamental rights, endemic to a free people. We don’t have to justify how we exercise those rights unless our actions violate the rights of others. We don’t need to apologize, explain or plead with any government for the ability to exercise our rights – and we certainly don’t need to defend them to a pompous British national, who comes to this nation for the opportunities it affords and the basic rights it protects, and then proceeds to use his media megaphone to advocate their destruction!

The beauty of our Constitution is that it protects We the People from our government. It limits the government’s authority and guarantees that the people’s basic rights are protected from government infringement. It protects our right to speak out against the authorities without fear of arrest. It protects our right to peacefully protest.  And yes, when all else fails, and our government becomes a tyranny, the people have the right to forcibly remove it if need be:

If the representatives of the people betray their constituents, there is then no resource left but in the exertion of that original right of self-defense which is paramount to all positive forms of government, and which against the usurpations of the national rulers, may be exerted with infinitely better prospect of success than against those of the rulers of an individual state. In a single state, if the persons intrusted with supreme power become usurpers, the different parcels, subdivisions, or districts of which it consists, having no distinct government in each, can take no regular measures for defense. The citizens must rush tumultuously to arms, without concert, without system, without resource; except in their courage and despair.

I realize panty-wetting cowards like you don’t understand the concept of a free people or the rights and responsibilities that come with that particular principle. I realize being a Brit, you are a subject, and not a free citizen. I realize you’re unaccustomed to having the rights and responsibilities of a citizen.

But I was wrong to assume that you came to this country for the freedoms and opportunities it offers. You don’t understand them. You don’t respect them. You scoff at them. And you call anyone who holds them dear “stupid,” “absurd,” “ridiculous” and other choice monikers.

It’s amazing that you don’t see the hypocrisy of using the basic freedoms protected by the First Amendment to the US Constitution to not just belittle this document, but to disparage the very right that aims to protect you from being oppressed and your other rights violated by tyrants!

What the hell is wrong with you?

It’s not just a bloody “little book!” It’s an integral part of what this nation is – a nation you have adopted as your home – a nation that has given you the opportunity to use a microphone without prosecution to spew your disdain for her laws and traditions! It’s what we in the military spend a lifetime defending, and what we swear to uphold and protect. It is the law of this land, and for you – a guest in this country, who enjoys all the rights and freedoms protected by this document – to belittle it in this manner is appalling!

You spit on our laws. You demean our traditions. You dance in the blood of our innocents, even as you advocate making them even more defenseless. And you deride the sacrifices made by the men and women who swore to protect and defend this document.

There has been talk about deporting you. There has been talk about shutting you up and taking you off the air. But lucky for you, even pompous, pedantic slime like you is protected by the very Constitution you so effortlessly and disrespectfully wave around as nothing but a “little book.”

But I hope you do stay on the air. I hope you’re exposed for the narcissistic, overbearing, pompous, ignorant asshole that you are. I hope every argument you spew on the air is examined and deconstructed, because you are wrong, and I suspect you know you’re wrong, because you resort to empty insults when you cannot come up with a coherent reply. I hope you continue broadcasting, because you will be exposed for the disgusting, arrogant git you really are.
