Deport Piers Morgan?

Recently, a band of media vultures decided to wrap themselves in the bloody tatters of the children at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and promote policy – specifically, the demise of the Second Amendment.

I get it.

As much as I’d like the media to be objective, there is no such thing. As much as Fox likes to pretend it’s “fair and balanced,” it’s about as skewed to the right as MSNBC MSDNC is to the left. Frankly, it’s a little silly to expect the media to be objective. They are not. They never have been.

During the US Civil War, for instance, “many newspapers published biased accounts of events, “factual” testimonials of enemy atrocities, articles proselytizing for specific political and military goals, and emotionally charged letters from citizens affected by the conflict. A quiet war for public support was waged both in the North and the South with the newspapers serving on the front lines. Issues like conscription, use of slaves as soldiers, and the validity of total war were hotly debated in the papers. The newspapers controlled the ebb and flow of public opinion and a particularly popular circulation could determine the outcomes of city or state politics.”

Likewise, during the constitutional ratification process, a literal war took place in the media between the federalists and the anti-federalists.

So, no. I have no delusions about an objective media, nor do I expect a lack of bias in reporting. That’s part of the reason why I read so many varied news sources, from BBC to local papers, to CNN, to Fox. I even turn on MSDNC on occasion… but only when Ed Schultz isn’t on, because his bloviatory (yes, I just made this word up), pompous, froth-flecked spew literally makes me want to hang him from a tree by his triple chins.

So I wasn’t surprised that CNN’s Piers Morgan went on a crazy-eyed, screeching tirade about the Second Amendment, and how it’s causing death, mayhem, etc. in our country, and how guns should be banned. I wasn’t surprised that he attacked GOA’s Larry Pratt with ad hominems, finally shrieking that Larry is stupid (a sure sign that he has lost the argument).

I was mildly amused that a petition to deport Morgan garnered nearly 70,000 signatures on the White House Petition site, and even more amused that Morgan whined about it like a petulant schoolgirl, as if he was really facing deportation!

Piers! Buddy! Take a chill pill! This is America. We don’t deport people for being disagreeable douchebags. We don’t deport people whose views we deplore. You’re missing the whole irony here. Or did they not teach you the meaning of the word in the UK? You use the First Amendment to castigate the Second – both vital parts of our Bill of Rights – so people used their First Amendment rights to castigate you! You still can’t seem to find irony with two hands and a flashlight, and I find that hilarious!

I also find it ironic that the very people who come here for the opportunities and freedoms this nation offers, then proceed to try and destroy those freedoms in order to make their new homeland resemble the one they escaped. And ironically, the homeland that Piers Morgan escaped – which has traditionally had low levels of crime committed with firearms to begin with – has seen its gun crime nearly DOUBLE since its ban was instituted post-Dunblane.

Gun crime has almost doubled since Labour came to power as a culture of extreme gang violence has taken hold.

The latest Government figures show that the total number of firearm offences in England and Wales has increased from 5,209 in 1998/99 to 9,865 last year  –  a rise of 89 per cent.

In some parts of the country, the number of offences has increased more than five-fold.

In eighteen police areas, gun crime at least doubled.

Now, obviously, as Morgan correctly pointed out, Britain has much fewer deaths by firearms than the US. No one is denying that. However, Morgan’s claim that our high firearm death rates are caused by the fact that we have the right to keep and bear arms is absurd, given the fact that Britain has eliminated said right and has subsequently seen rising gun crime rates.

Britain –> guns banned — no gun ownership by law-abiding citizens –> gun crime skyrockets.

US –> guns not banned — gun ownership rising –> gun crime generally declines with fluctuations year-on-year.

Notice, I am not pointing to the UK gun ban as the cause of rising gun crime rates. But they are, in fact, on the rise, and even Piers Morgan cannot possibly deny this fact.

What does this tell us?

Well, anyone with half a brain should realize that banning guns will do nothing to stop crime. In fact, if the trend in the UK holds true here, we will see a staggering increase in massacres should the Second Amendment be abolished. Is that what Piers Morgan wants? To turn the US into the country he left?

I find Morgan a galling, arrogant git. He honestly seems to believe that he – as a guest in this nation – is more qualified to craft its laws and decide who should be allowed to exercise what right than those of us who are actual citizens! I consider this to be the ultimate sign of disrespect to a nation that welcomed him and afforded him the opportunity to advance his career, achieve and earn!

Of course, this is unsurprising from a pompous, pretentious prick who recently told a guest on his show that the Bible should be amended to include gay marriage. Yes, Piers Morgan actually said this: “My point to you about gay rights, for example, it’s time for an amendment to the Bible.”

Erm… uh… dude! I’m an atheist, but even I get the whole “Christians think the Bible is the word of God” thing! How is it you think they’re going to amend it? Seriously?

This also shows Morgan’s ignorance about the laws of his adopted country.

Our Bill of Rights – the first ten amendments to the Constitution – cannot be amended. It is a constitutional Bill of Rights, that according to the Law Dictionary, “cannot be changed except with the approval of that country’s voting public.” Good luck with that, Piers.

Despite Piers Morgan’s histrionic, victim mentality-laden rants, no one is going to deport him. If he is here legally, he’s not getting booted out. We are generally a nation of laws, and most of us abide by those laws, even when inconvenient or unfortunate. So believe it or not, deporting Piers Morgan is not, can not and should not be on the agenda. Yes, he actively works to undermine our rights. Yes, he actively uses his position to promote views antithetical to our foundational principles and the ideals on which this nation was built. Yes, he’s an arrogant douche. Yes, he’s a hysterical prima donna.

But the beauty of this nation is that we have freedom – freedom for everyone – even arrogant British douchebags who actively work to undermine our freedoms.

To quote The American President, “America isn’t easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, ’cause it’s gonna put up a fight. It’s gonna say “You want free speech? Let’s see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who’s standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. …”

Freedom isn’t easy. Freedom is for everyone – even for those with whom you disagree.

So while I find the movement to deport Piers Morgan amusing, and the UK petition to keep him here even more so… deporting Piers Morgan is just silly. And it makes gun rights advocates and supporters look stupid.

So can we stop? Please?

  1. No one actually thinks the pompous a-whole will get deported. The petition is just to make a point that we dont like his arrogant dumb ass views. We’re sick of hearing foreign losers, that their own country doesn’t even want, coming over here and trying to tell us how to run our country. The way he treats his guest, i am surprised one of them hasn’t kicked his whinny british cry-baby ass. He is just an arrogant bully. The last time an arrogant British bully tried to run our country he did get his butt kicked; King Piers

    1. I don’t disagree with you.

  2. Nicki,
A wonderful article. I am one of the now 81,843 signers who are getting quite a chuckle over Mr. Morgan’s discomfort. Perhaps we should have him fill out a hurt feelings report. Keep up fighting the good fight.

    1. Oh, I LOVE that hurt feelings report! I used to have it hanging on my office wall, but it disappeared somewhere. I need to find it again! 🙂

  3. As law-abiding citizens we are expected to navigate the labyrinth of conflicting state laws regarding firearms and we do successfully everyday. Although many of these laws don’t seem to make sense to firearm owners we still respect them and abide by them everyday.

Firearms are used more often by law-abiding citizens for self-defense than by deranged criminals to commit horrible acts of mass violence. For several examples for the recent use of firearms for defensive purposes not typically reported by the national media please visit: and forward this address to others to whom this information may be useful. @forceequalizer
